THE preaching of the truth continues as usual in Sengera, Ogembo and Maiga. Mr Goldby says that the numbers in the congregations
are keeping up well. He is pressing on with translating more of the Psalms into Eke-Gussii in metre and hopes to produce
a new enlarged edition in due course. Meanwhile they have to reprint 500 copies of the existing Psalms in metre (with just
a few of the newly translated Psalms added) to tide them over until the new edition is printed.
The Seventh Day Adventists have been having a campaign, preaching their brand of erroneous religion every day for two
weeks, at Sengera Market, about 500 metres from the Mission compound. This fact underlines the importance of going on with
diligence in the God-given task of presenting the unadultered truth of God's Word to the people in and around our Mission.
On the health care front, it is a sad fact that AIDS is increasingly taking its toll, although as much as possible is
being done by our hospital staff to help AIDS sufferers in the hospital and in their homes, and to educate local people
about avoiding the disease. The number of orphans who have lost parents to the disease is growing. The hospital had to
deal also with a casualty from the conflict between Maasai and Kisii men at Maiga Dr de Jong had to remove a large arrowhead
from a man's knee joint.
It seems that a party of Maasai warriors had attacked a Kisii family compound at Maiga and hacked a man to death. When
the Kisii men gave chase to the Maasai men they were amushed by a very large Maasai war party. The attack has left seven
poor widows and many fatherless children in Maiga. Mr Goldby says, "We visited the homes of some of our people and held
worship with them. They seemed to appreciate our support in their time of need very much. The poor people are very frightened
of being attacked without warning. . . Many will now be sleeping in the fields for safety and watching against possible
attacks. We prayed together for their protection and tried to direct them to the place of true safety in Christ, under
the shadow of the Almighty'."
