Zimbabwe

MR Jake van Praag has sent a message from Ingwenya stating that they are in no apparent danger from the current political upheaval. He also says that they value the prayers offered for them, and requests, ‘Brethren pray for us’."

In another message, dated 10th April, he says, "We have just had word that the Rev Mzamo is in hospital with some heart problem." We understand that Mr Mzamo has improved somewhat and we hope and pray that in the kindness of the Lord he will make a full recovery.

In an earlier message Mr van Praag has said that the first three months of the year have been very wet in that part of Zimbabwe, with near record rainfalls, possibly due to the cyclone in Mozambique. "Many mud-brick homes not far from here," he adds, "have such damage that they are no longer habitable – a sad sight indeed."

He also reports, "Sister Coote has returned to the hospital at Mbuma, while sister Terlouw is on leave, and we are all pleased to have her with us."

"The last Sabbath of March saw the communion at Ingwenya, and with the children all present the church was very full. We trust that the Lord will be pleased to bless the services of His house."

"I was thankful," he adds, "that Neil Hicklin from New Zealand was in Zimbabwe for a ‘holiday’, as he accompanied me to Mbuma and helped with the work." Mr Hicklin, an elder in Wellington, was a valued member of the Mission staff in the 1980s.

Of the John Tallach Secondary School, Mr van Praag says, "The teachers and staff are to be commended for an excellent result in the final exams last year for the form 4 pupils, with 90% of the students passing and 51 students gaining maximum marks. Many schools would have a 90% failure so it is to the credit of the teachers that this result has been achieved. No wonder that the application list for entry to the school continues to grow."

Kenya

Mr Hugh MacKenzie (from Stornoway) and his wife have settled down well on Sengera Mission. Mr MacKenzie is acting as Mission Administrator during Mr Ian MacLean’s furlough in Scotland.
