God may bear long with the wicked, but there is a point where the piling avalanche will cease to be held back, and descend in fearful ruin.
The most fearful punishment of sinners is simply to leave them to themselves. Sin is but hell in embryo, hell is but sin in development.
Christ cannot be rejected with impunity. Even the Jews, who “did it ignorantly in unbelief”, paid a terrible penalty for their crime; how much more terrible will be the punishment of those who have all their unbelief, without any of their ignorance.
The comparative poverty of the Church is not because God cannot bestow riches upon her, but because there are better blessings than wealth, that are incompatible with its possession.
