A PRESS release from Mr Paul Rowlands, Secretary to the Society, informs us that Mr David Larlham has been appointed as his Assistant. “This is a new position in the Society,” says the release, “designed not only to alleviate substantially some of the day-to-day administrative burdens borne by the General Secretary, Paul Rowland, but also in time to co-ordinate and supervise the various departments. We believe that such an appointment represents a positive step forward as we seek to walk in the tried and trusted old paths’ in the new millennium.” Mr Larlham comes from a thirty-two year career in banking, and is a deacon in Camberwell Evangelical Church. He has long been a supporter of the Society’s firm stand, especially on the Authorised Version.
The Society also informs us that “there is a vacancy for the vital role of Personal Secretarial Assistant to the General Secretary and his Assistant. The Society would be pleased to receive applications from qualified persons. The post involves handling all correspondence for the General Secretary and his Assistant; managing diaries and making travel arrangements; preparation of minutes for Committee meetings and taking notes; and liaising with members of the Committee. Such diverse responsibilities, says the Society, will require a wide range of secretarial skills, including competence in word processing, a pleasant and cordial telephone manner, and a proven ability to handle confidential information with utmost discretion. Ability to organise will be a strength, and shorthand skills would be particularly advantageous. Applicants should he well grounded in the Reformed Christian faith and be wholeheartedly in agreement with the spiritual principles and aims of the Society.
