Visits Abroad
Mr Lucio Strata was able to visit Fornacia di Barga, Italy, for one Sabbath in May, when he conducted services on the Sabbath morning and evening. He also conducted a prayer meeting during the week. Those attending the services were the usual friends who have now been meeting together for many years.
In June Rev D A Ross and Mr Edward Ross visited the Ukraine. The Ukraine Embassy in London had requested aid for families deprived of their homes and property by flooding. We delivered aid as well as a quantity of Bibles and literature to the local council of Rachiv for distribution to these families. Rachiv lies about 200 kilometres from the western border of Ukraine and is close to the Ukrainian-Romanian border. Thereafter we visited the friends in Odessa, where services were held for two Sabbaths as well as a prayer meeting and lectures during the week. We also managed to distribute clothing to needy children in the Odessa Children’s Hospital. A fuller report will be given later.
Rev John Macleod was able to visit Vancouver for two Sabbaths in July and the services were held in the Free Presbyterian Church. About 20 people met on the second Sabbath and it is hoped that there will now be regular worship each Sabbath. Mr MacLeod was also able to visit our congregation in Chesley. A full report will be given later.
In August/September it is hoped, God willing, that the Rev D A Ross and Mr Edward Ross will visit Romania. The bulk of our load will be literature, including some 15 000 Romanian and Hungarian Words of Life Calendars from the TBS, to be delivered to a small group of Calvinistic persuasion.
Once again we ask our people to remember these different activities at the throne of grace. We ought to be helpers together for the advancement of the Kingdom of God, and one such exercise is to bear one another’s burdens in prayer – pleading especially for those on whose shoulders fall the great tasks of spreading the Word of God, “with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Phil 1:27).
(Rev) D A Ross, Convener, Dominions & Overseas Committee.
