More Durham and Sibbes sermons suitable for Sabbath reading during the lockdown

In Jeremiah 50:4,5 we read:

In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God. They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.

The Scottish divine James Durham preached a series of five sermons on these verses. The third of these, transcribed from a 1764 edition, can be found at the link below, along with the first two sermons uploaded in previous weeks:

James Durham, third sermon on Jeremiah 50:4,5

James Durham, second sermon on Jeremiah 50:4,5
James Durham, first sermon on Jeremiah 50:4,5

1 Peter 4:17 is another text with obvious relevance to the current situation:

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

The English Puritan Richard Sibbes has a second sermon on this text, this time on the second half, entitled The Ungodly’s Misery, to be found at this link:

Richard Sibbes, The Ungodly’s Misery

The sermon on the first half of the text, uploaded last week, can be found at this link:

Richard Sibbes, The Church’s Visitation

The Durham sermon is included in The Collected Sermons of James Durham published by Natphtali Press and Reformation Heritage Books in 2017, and their version may be found on pages 575-585. The Sibbes sermon can be found in volume 1 of the Banner of Truth’s edition of his Works, on pages 385-394.
