Meeting of Synod.—The Synod of the Free Presbyterian Church will (God willing) meet at the Inverness Church, on Tuesday the 16th day of May. The Moderator (Rev. D. Macfarlane, Dingwall), is expected to conduct the opening service at 6.30 p.m. The Synod will also sit on the following day.
Deputy to Canadian Mission.—Rev. D. Beaton, Wick, has been appointed as deputy to the Canadian Mission for this summer. He expects (d.v.) to leave Glasgow by a steamship of the Donaldson Line on Saturday the 27th May. He desires the prayers of the Lord’s people for his preservation by the way and the success of his Mission work, and we are confident that such will remember him at “the throne of grace.”

The late Mr. A. Brown, Greenock.—We briefly notice this month, with sorrow, the death of Mr. Archibald Brown, of 10 Brisbane Street, Greenock, which event took place at the house of his son-in-law, Mr. John M’Callum, Brackley, Ardrishaig, on the 10th April. Mr. Brown, who had reached the ripe old age of over ninety-three years, was laid aside at said house for nearly two years. He was our oldest member in Greenock, a loyal friend of the cause, and much respected by all who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends, and hope to have a fuller sketch in a future issue.
WHEN God would have cured Babylon and she would not be cured, then she was given up to destruction (Jer. li. 9). When Jerusalem would not be gathered under the wing of Christ, then their habitation is left desolate (Matt. xxiii. 37, 38). When wisdom stretcheth out her hand and men refuse, then wisdom will laugh at men’s destruction (Prov. i. 26). Salvation itself will not save those that spill the potion and cast away the plaster. A pitiful case, when this merciful Saviour shall delight in destruction; when He that made men shall have no mercy on them (Isaiah xxvii. 11).—Sibbes.
