It is not every man that is converted that we should altogether choose as a companion. There are odd people to be met with who will go to Heaven we have no doubt, for they are pilgrims on the right way, but we have no wish for much of their company on the road. They are cross-grained, crabbed, and cantankerous, with a something about them that one’s nature can no more delight in than the palate can take pleasure in nauseous physic. They are a sort of spiritual hedgehogs; they are alive and useful, and no doubt they illustrate the wisdom and patience of God, but they are not good companions; one would not like to carry them in his bosom.—C. H. Spurgeon
