The happiness of heaven will be realised in the immediate presence and unveiled glory of Christ. Thus the Lord’s last prayer for His people (John xvii. 24) “Father I will that they also whom thou hast given me be with me where I am that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me before the foundation of the world.” As they leave this world the church is conscious of the loss of their prayers, Christian example and gospel fellowship, but the Church triumphant rejoices in the arrival of those given by the Father to the Son.
The subject of this brief obituary was regarded as being one of these and on 1st November, 1956, she was taken to her eternal home at the age of 92.
Mrs. Black was predeceased in 1935 by her worthy husband, Mr. Adam Black, of whom an obituary appeared in our Magazine for May, 1936. He had been an office-bearer in Halkirk congregation for many years. His mother was a descendant of the pious “Jean Armadale.”
Grace is not hereditary but great is the privilege and accountability of those who are the seed of the righteous. The “Macadie and Murray” families of Caithness, who were related, had in the past many of the “salt of the earth,” as seen in The Ministers and Men in the Far North.
Mrs. Black was born in Scotsc Calder of parents who feared the Lord. They were members in Westerdale Church. Her father, Donald MacAdie attended meetings of the General Assembly of the Old Free Church of Scotland in Edinburgh. He died in 1891, before the passing of the destructive, God dishonouring Declaratory Act in 1892. He mourned the sad declension of that church.
In 1929, Mrs. Black was received into church membership in Halkirk as one who gave evidence of being regenerated. She had an unfeigned love to Christ and His Cause. She was reticent, and sparing in her words and of a retiring disposition. By her diligence in attending the means of grace, until old age prevented, and otherwise, she set an example even to the third and fourth generation now arising, and in effect said, “Buy the truth, and sell it not.”
To Miss MacAdie, her only surviving sister we extend sincere sympathy; also to the bereaved family, and specially her invalid daughter whom she lovingly attended for many years. Our hearts desire and prayer is that they be enabled to follow in the footsteps of those now no more with them.—W. G.
