Ordination of Rev. Alexander Morrison at North Uist.
On Wednesday evening of 4th November 1959, the Outer Isles Presbytery met, in the Free Presbyterian Church in North Uist, to ordain and induct Alexander Morrison (of Ness, Lewis) to the pastoral charge of the North Uist congregation. Most of the members of Presbytery were present, together with others who travelled far, to witness the event. Rev. D. A. Maclean, Portnalong was associated with the Presbytery.
Rev. A. Mackay, presided, and preached a stirring and appropriate sermon, from Isaiah 52 verse 7. Public worship being ended the Moderator gave a brief narrative of the steps that had been taken in connection with the Call to Rev. A. Morrison, Probationer, and his acceptance of the same. Thereafter Rev. W. Maclean, Moderator pro. tem. addressed to Mr. Morrison the usual questions. He answered these satisfactorily, and signed the formula in presence of the congregation. The Moderator then with solemn prayer, and the laying on of the hands of the Presbytery, did ordain Rev. Alexander Morrison to the office of the holy ministry, and after prayer, did also, in the name of the Presbytery, and by authority of the Divine Head of the Church, induct him to the pastoral charge of the North Uist congregation. The Moderator and members of Presbytery, then gave him the right hand of fellowship.
Thereafter Rev. W. Maclean addressed the newly ordained and inducted minister, and Rev. F. Macdonald suitably exhorted the congregation. After the last Psalm was sung and the Benediction pronounced, the congregation were given an opportunity of shaking hands with their minister at the door of the church.
It is our fervent desire that the Lord may bless abundantly the ministry of Mr. Morrison, in the ingathering of sinners, and the up-building of His church.—Fraser MacDonald, Clerk of Presbytery.
