Rev. John Colquhoun’s Illness
Many readers will know that Mr Colquhoun has been very ill. We are glad to hear that he is much improved and trust that the Lord will restore him to a measure of health and strength, if that is His holy will, and to continued usefulness in His Cause and Vineyard.
Aberdeen Church Appeal
The Kirk Session would respectfully bring the Aberdeen Congregation to the attention of the whole Church for their earnest consideration of its needs both spiritually and financially. They do this the more especially as it is a new congregation, and also because so many of our young people are now going to Aberdeen. At the last Synod it was agreed that the status of the congregation should be raised from that of a Mission Station to that of a sanctioned charge.
A Church, St George’s in the West, situated in John Street, has recently been purchased by the congregation. The purchase price is £3,650 and the cost of installing heating, lighting and other repairs will require in the region of £2,250. Financial help in meeting this cost will be greatly appreciated and will be a source of much encouragement to this congregation and to all interested. The Aberdeen Kirk Session therefore appeal to the people throughout the Church to give help as they are able.

Tain and Fearn Manse Purchase Appeal
Before this appears in print it is expected that the Rev. John Nicolson will have been inducted to the Tain and Fearn congregation and that after 60 years a minister will again labour among the people of the district. It is generally known that they did not have a manse, and that about two years ago a fund was started to purchase one.
We are happy to say that in the kind providence of the Lord a manse has now been bought. It is an almost new, modern bungalow with garage attached, and is pleasantly situated quite near the church in Tain.
A debt of £4,400 still attaches to the house, and it is hoped that the congregation’s own efforts to clear this off may be augmented by such gifts as friends interested in the cause in these parts of Easter Ross may feel inclined to give. Interest-free loans would also be most gratefully received, whether offered by individuals or congregations.

East Pakistan Flood Relief
In November last year East Pakistan came through a time of terrible devastation, which followed in the wake of one of the most destructive cyclones in the nation’s history. At that time the death roll stood at over 200,000 and help of every kind was urgently required. It may be of interest to record that in that time of crisis the Northern Presbytery organised a collection to relieve sufferings in East Pakistan among the congregations under the Presbytery and the sum of over £394 was sent as a result to the Pakistan High Commissioner, London. It was gratifying to read the words of appreciation from the Pakistan High Commission Office, London, in acknowledging this sum: “Please convey our most grateful thanks to the donors. We have been deeply touched by your kind words of sympathy.” The Lord bring peace and a cessation of warfare to that troubled country.
