Opening of Church at Aberdeen
On Friday evening, 15th October 1971, a congregation of well over 200 people assembled in the Free Presbyterian Church, John Street, Aberdeen, for the official opening of the recently purchased church. It was indeed gratifying to see so many present from many different parts, and the interest shown by friends from far and near was a great encouragement to the congregation at Aberdeen. The congregation had worked hard to obtain and prepare a place of worship large enough to accommodate the increased influx of students due in Aberdeen for the 1971-72 session and they now saw their hopes realised in the provision of the church in John Street.
Rev. R.R. Sinclair came from Wick to conduct the service on the opening night. He preached an edifying and suitable sermon on spiritual prosperity from the words in Psalm 18, 25: “O Lord, I beseech Thee, send now prosperity”, and afterwards called on Rev. Wm. Grant, Dingwall, to engage in prayer. At the end of the service Mr Sinclair invited Rev. John Nicolson, Tain, to speak. Among other things, he said how happy he was to be present and expressed his good wishes for the temporal and spiritual prosperity of the congregation. Mr J.P.H. MacKay, Edinburgh, who was called on to speak after him spoke in similar terms. A letter was read from Rev. A.F. MacKay, Inverness, who regretted not being present. He hoped that under the Lord’s blessing many precious souls would be born anew in the church. The Interim Moderator in speaking said that the congregation had reason to acknowledge the Lord’s goodness in providing this place of worship. On behalf of the Deacons’ Court he thanked all belonging to the congregation who had worked so hard and willingly during the last few weeks to prepare the building for public worship. He urged all present to continue to remember the Aberdeen congregation in their prayers.
The proceedings were closed with the singing of Psalm 133 and the benediction.

Congregational Treasurers are reminded that, as the current financial year ends on 31st December 1971, all congregational contributions for the year should be sent to the General Treasurer by 8th January 1972, D.V., after which date any contribution received will be credited to 1972.
