Dear Friends,
I last wrote to you from Calgary, and am now writing from Winnipeg, having returned here on 11th April. I had a very pleasant time in Calgary, staying with the Misses Beaton, and meeting friends there. The journey here was overnight across the prairies where Canada’s wheat is grown. God in His mercy gives the fruit of the earth for man’s needs. May we know His goodness leading us to repentance. At Winnipeg Canadian Pacific railway station Mr. Gillies and Mr. Kitchen met me. I was pleased to meet again our friends here, and to find them all quite well. During my time away from Winnipeg the snow had disappeared and the warmth of Spring could be felt. There were signs of nature awakening from its sleep, as it responded to the rain and warmth of the seasons. I often think that the very earth on which we live condemns us when we reject God’s Word with its offers of mercy. The rain comes down and the snow from heaven, and they water the earth, causing it to bring forth and bud, but how unfruitful are we although God’s Word comes to us. If we do not bring forth fruit, that same Word will judge and condemn us. Pray to God asking Him to make you fruitful in every good work to do His will.
I expect, the Lord willing, to be in Winnipeg until about the middle of June, when I am to visit Michigan, before returning to Scotland in early July.
When we look at the fruit of sin, wherever it is, we can only feel discouraged — this is what Satan would have us do. We have something far better to look at — the work of Christ in the atonement and in His present intercession. “Look unto me, and be ye saved”. Jesus has told us that if we ask anything in His name He will give it. Let us therefore ask “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as in heaven.”
