Church Extension Charge
Communion — The Kirk Session wish to intimate that, as in previous years, the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be dispensed in the British Legion Hall, Perth, on Sabbath, 26th August 1979, D.V. The usual services will be held. The ministers expected are Rev. D. Campbell, M.A. and Rev. John Tallach, M.A. (D.V.).
Manse — In the April 1976 issue of the Free Presbyterian Magazine an appeal was made for financial help towards the purchase of the Church Extension manse. Recently the Deacon’s Court received information that the manse, situated at 167 Glasgow Road, Perth, is being repaid from the proceeds of the Forsyth legacy.
The Court takes this opportunity of publicly acknowledging their gratitude to all throughout the Church who have contributed to this fund. They also wish to intimate that no further donations are required as the manse fund is now closed.
Thanks are also due to the Finance Committee for their co-operation in the purchase of the manse.
Donations from many friends are continually being received for the Extension Charge itself. These are much appreciated. It is encouraging to those more immediately involved in this work to be assured of this practical interest in the Church Extension enterprise. The prayers of the Lord’s people are also earnestly solicited for the furtherance of the Redeemer’s kingdom on this side of the country.
Lord Advocate becomes a Baron
The appointment of Mr J. P. H. MacKay, Q.C., as Lord Advocate in the new Government and as a Privy Councillor has been welcomed throughout the Church. It is gratifying to know that Mr MacKay has been further honoured through his appointment as a Baron in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
The prayerful good wishes of the people of the Church, we know, are warmly extended to Lord MacKay in connection with these appointments. Our desire is that the Lord may make him eminently useful in our nation at the present time and that he may prove a witness for Christ and His Cause in the high places of the land.
In this appointment we are reminded of the notable part played by another lawyer in the struggles of the Second Reformation. That was Archibald Johnstone, Lord Warriston, whose name will ever be held in high esteem by those who value what is good. “Warriston belonged to a class rarely to be met with now: he was a religious statesman. The standard of his policy was the Word of God: his great and governing aim, the divine glory.” So wrote the younger McCrie. We are sure that in this Lord MacKay would desire to follow in his steps.
