Cremation not for Christians by Alfred J. Levell. Gospel Standard Publications, 1981. 21pp. Paperback.

Cremation, is it Christian? by James W. Fraser. Loizeaux Brothers, New Jersey, 1965, revised 1985. 31pp. Paperback.

The Paganism of Cremation by Ergatees. Westminster Standard Publications.

Sadly, there is no good book, currently in print, exposing the unchristian nature of cremation. These three pamphlets seem to be the only ones readily available. The third one was reprinted in the Free Presbyterian Magazine September 1988, pp284-287.

Mr Levell’s pamphlet deals with six scriptural arguments for Christian burial and against cremation. Mr Fraser’s pamphlet is a passionate appeal for more consideration to be given to the subject. It is dated in places but still contains some useful points that are not normally made in anti-cremation pamphlets.

As is too common with Christian pamphlets, the scriptural arguments are mustered in a disconnected manner. This blunderbuss approach may
be useful to some, but more closely reasoned treatment is needed to have a wider and more compelling effect on the Christian community. While we welcome these modest efforts we await a fuller published statement of the scriptural position against cremation.
