For once we can commend the Archbishop of Canterbury when he spoke against immorality in high places. He warned that discarding absolute standards and allowing private opinion to decide what was good or evil had radically dangerous consequences at different levels. Recent scandals within the Royal Family and among Government ministers, no doubt, were the background to his warning. He also said: “We must be careful not to suggest that major public figures can behave as they like at home or in their office and that this has nothing to do with their work.” The warning is timely and it is to be hoped that it will be heeded in high places.
