ACCORDING to a report in July in Mexico City’s Excelsior newspaper, police authorities in Huayapan in central Mexico said that Roman Catholics expelled six families from their homes and confiscated their properties “for being evangelicals”. The persecutors were led by town official Panfilo Hernandez. They were helped by Roman Catholics from the nearby town of Pueblo who had already driven four families from their homes for the same reason.
No doubt the attackers took encouragement from the Pope’s condemnation of “Protestant sects”, as he described them, when he was in Latin America last year. It is interesting, however, that the press unexpectedly reported the injustices and aroused public support for those so cruelly treated.
Scripture gives us reason to believe that the day is coming when all Rome-inspired or Rome-led persecution will be fully exposed. Much of it has already been uncovered; more is being uncovered; but we should be praying for the coming of the time when the Papacy will no longer be successful in hiding its dark and evil deeds. □
