few formerly attended public worship twice. One of the arguments for this deplorable change is the advent of Television and that the “social climate” was never favourable to the evening hour of service. Another excuse brought forward for the change is that the evening service is not an ancient institution. It is quite clear to us that here there is a timing of both services in the morning to leave most of the Lord’s Day to the people to spend in worldly recreations and activities, which has been the practice of course of a great number of Church of Scotland members for years now. They need have no “guilt complex” now when they stay at home or drive into the country during the evening hour of God’s holy Day. The Church is closed! But sad to say, in every other denomination there are adherents who attend the house of God but once, although there are two services, one in the morning and the other in the evening, to which they might come without any inconvenience. Where is the “Forward Movement” in the Church of Scotland of which we used to hear so much? A true forward movement would be, the holding fast to God’s holy Day and going up to His house with pleasure to preach and to hear the Word of God and the Gospel of Christ, however few our companions would be in an evil and worldly generation. This is how the genuine ministers of the gospel and the godfearing can surely honour the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, obtain spiritual blessings and also set an example before those to whom the Sabbath and the Sanctuary are at present a weariness. Who knows when the Great Head of the Church will visit the remnant of His people with a day of power, in the path of duty in His house, on His holy Day?
