Mrs Margaret Thatcher,
Prime Minister,
No. 10 Downing Street,
London.
Dear Madam,
As Moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland I wish, on behalf of our church and people, to express our abhorrence at the bombing outrage which occurred this week at the Grand Hotel in Brighton and which was evidently directed against your own person as Prime Minister and Members of Government who were resident in the hotel at the time.
I wish to assure you of our profound relief at the failure of this murderous attack in its main purpose although regrettably resulting in loss of life and acknowledge with deep gratitude the divine mercy exercised over yourself and members of Government in this deplorable and despicable business.
May our gracious Creator cast over yourself and each member of Government the shield of His protection and encourage you in the discharge of government and state duties to trust yourselves entirely to His mercy who is the “Preserver of men” and the “Saviour of all men, especially of those who believe.”
On behalf of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland
I am
Yours faithfully,
A. F. MacKay
(Rev. A. F. MacKay)
Moderator.
