By the time the Magazine is in the hands of our readers, it will be known whether Mr. Asquith will be in a position to fulfil the pledge he gave of bringing in Home Rule for Ireland should his party be returned. We look at the matter from a religious standpoint, though in the nature of things it is bound up with politics. No one who has ever spent any length of time in Ireland will regard this question as of mere passing importance. It is a matter of life and death to the Protestants of Ulster; and the men into whose hands Mr. Asquith means to put such power hate the Protestants with a keener hatred than they do the devil.
