The Defence of Election: By JOHN BRADFORD. Together with a “Treatise of Election and Free Will” and “A Brief Sum of the Doctrine of Election and Predestination,” also a Short Account of the Life of the Author by Henry Atherton, pastor, Grove Chapel, Camberwell, S.E. London: Farncombe & Sons, Ltd. Limp cloth, 6d., Post, 2d. extra.
This is one of a series of booklets published by the Sovereign Grace Union. In his “Defence of Election,” John Bradford, the martyr, begins by showing that the doctrine of election is most certainly set forth in Scripture. Thus, having laid a sure foundation, he proceeds to combat the objections brought against this scriptural truth. The natural heart of man hates the doctrine of
election, and it will not submit to the divine sovereignty, and none but God’s Spirit can make any sinner see the preciousness of these truths. At the same time, the Sovereign Grace Union is engaged in a very commendable work in publishing these booklets in defence of such doctrines. We never know when and where the Spirit of God may use them for His own gracious purposes.
