SOUND AN ALARM.—This is the report of a sermon delivered at a Civic Service at Cardiff, on 1st January, 1957, by Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, minister of Westminster Chapel, London. We understand also that this sermon was broadcast on the Welsh Regional Programme of the B.B.C. The text of this sermon is Isaiah xxii. 8-14 and part of it reads: “And he discovered the covering of Judah, and thou didst look in that day to the armour of the house of the forest Ye have also seen the breaches of the city of David, that they are many . . . Ye made also a ditch between the five walls for the water of the old pool; but ye have not looked unto the Maker thereof, neither had respect unto Him that fashioned it long ago,” etc.
There are 20 pages of reading in good type. The sermon deals with “fatal complacency” in the nation, although matters spiritual, moral and temporal are not right; and with the attitude that there is no need to be an alarmist. Then the preacher deals with the varied activities entered upon, when matters appear to be anything but right, such as the United Nations Organisation, conferences, meetings, etc., in an endeavour to solve problems, without a proper view of the moral and spiritual character of our difficulties and without looking to God.
