Day of Prayer.
The following motion was taken up at the Synod in May: Rev. R. R. Sinclair moved and Rev. D. MacLean seconded “That Wednesday, 25th September, be observed as a day of Humiliation and Prayer throughout the Church, because of our continued backsliding in our national life and of absence of signs of repentance.” The Synod approved this motion.
AN APPEAL—The late Rev. John Tallach—Memorial Stone.
We, the Kirk Session of the Free Presbyterian congregation of Oban have decided that Memorial Stone be erected to mark the grave in Pennysfuir Cemetery, Oban, of our late beloved pastor, the late Rev. John Tallach. As he was the first foreign missionary of our church to our mission in Southern Rhodesia, we feel that his labours—which were manifold and signally owned of the Lord—belonged to the Church as a whole rather than to any single congregation. Accordingly, we issue this appeal to friends throughout the church, at home and abroad for subscriptions towards the purchase of a Memorial Stone and its erection. It is our opinion that we should make this known to our people in order to give them an opportunity of showing their appreciation of the service he was enabled to render to the cause of Christ, particularly among our people in Southern Rhodesia. Contributions will be thankfully received by Mr. John Martin, “Gylen,” Gallonach Road, Oban, Argyll, and acknowledged by him in the Free Presbyterian Magazine.
