The Home Secretary, Mr. R. A. Butler, speaking in London on 17th March last, said that he was perplexed by the fact that at a time of economic stability, full employment, and general wellbeing under the Welfare State, Britain is facing a considerable increase in crime, with a high proportion of crime among young people. No doubt, many people will offer many and varied reasons for this state of matters. One reason or cause of increased moral pollution amid plenty in providence is certainly the fact of there being no Bible or Christian discipline in a vast number of British homes.
The Anti-British Irish.
The Anti-British Irish are usually Roman Catholics, whether resident in Eire or Ulster, or Great Britain. If it were not deplorable, it would be amusing when, recently, we read of screaming Irish women outside Belfast Prison crying out: “Down with British tyranny.” And in the same paper we read that the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster had stated that more than 35,000 Irish men and women are coming to Britain every year, most of them to London. These men and women who come here should tell their fellows in Belfast that they like British “tyranny” in London, in preference to economic distress in Eire. Bad as we are as a nation, truly Britain has to stand a lot of abuse, and at the same time is the haven of rest for and the benefactor of many who are anything but grateful.
