Roman Catholic Ball on Sabbath

It is stated in the London Press that there is to be a “Sunday” night ball at the fashionable Dorchester Hotel, London, on May 18th, under the patronage of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster. He is not expected to attend, but the R.C. bishop of Southwark may be there. It is in aid of charity and this presumably will help to salve consciences of professed members of the “Holy” Church. There will be an extension of the liquor licence until 1 a.m. Monday morning to cater for many stage people who are expected to attend. One of the organisers stated that the Roman Catholic Church does not frown on “Sunday” functions in aid of the Church so long as people have been to mass during the day. All this is characteristic of the R.C. Church teaching and practice. As long as their people partake of their sacraments, they can do pretty well as they please as to their conduct thereafter, even on the Lord’s Day. They can dance and drink and enter into revelry, although even they should know that God says: “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.” Of course, true Christians, according to the principles of the gospel of Christ, and the doctrines which the Apostle Peter taught, would never dream of taking part in such a function even on a week night. Peter, whom Roman Catholics claim (falsely) to be the rock upon which the Church is built, writes in his 1st Epistle, chapter 4, verses 3-4, as follows: “For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries, wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you.” It is obvious what Peter (and the Holy Spirit) would think of a fashionable, worldly ball on the evening of the Lord’s Day.
