The Epistle of Jude by Thomas Manton, D.D.

The Banner of Truth Trust have done excellent service to the cause of truth. The Puritans of England were the most outstanding godly men that ever rose in England to the present day. Dr. Manton was chief among equals. Dr. John Owen must be regarded as the greatest Theologian, not only among the Puritan Divines, but in the Reformed Protestant Church from the days of Luther and Calvin. Owen was a scholar of the first rank, but his great scholarship was not his greatest attainment, but his marvellous nearness, and access to the mind of the Spirit in the divine revelation of grace in the Word of God! But they were excellent Theologians—all of them. Richard Baxter was a very prolific writer, but dangerously leaning towards Arminianism! He must be read with great care, and watchfulness. Some of the leading Scottish Covenanters passed very severe criticism on some of Baxter’s theology, and so did Dr. John Owen. It is wise for learners to get well acquainted with their book knowledge, before they either praise, or adversely criticise an author. It was said that “little knowledge is dangerous!” It is a life time work for the gospel Minister to search, examine, and find out all the facts about the Theological author? In theology “here-say” evidence is extremely dangerous.

We highly recommend Thomas Manton on his splendid work on the Epistle of Jude to our people at home and abroad. The saint and the sinner are faithfully handled in the light of God’s Word. Manton not only writes for the Church in time, but for eternity! It is obtainable from “The Banner of Truth Trust,” 58-59 Highgate West Hill, London, N.6. Price 13/- Postage over, and above. It is very cheap at present day prices.—J. MacLeod.
