New Printers for Magazines.
At a recent meeting of the Church’s Magazine Committee it was decided to give the work of printing and despatching the Free Presbyterian Magazine and the Young People’s Magazine to the printing firm, Bennet and Thomson, Church Street, Dumbarton, as from this month. This issue is printed by Bennet and Thomson. There will be a full report given to the Synod at its meeting this month on this change of printers.
The Synod Meeting.
The annual meeting of the Synod of the Church will take place in the Free Presbyterian Church, Gilemore Place, Edinburgh, on Tuesday, the 17th day of May, 1960, at 6.30 p.m. (D.V). The retiring Moderator of Synod, the Rev William Grant, will then conduct public Worship. It should be noted that the Synod is being held this year in Edinburgh for the first time.—Robert R. St. Jude’s Manse Fund Appeal.
In the June, 1959, issue of the Free Presbyterian Magazine there appeared a notice of appeal by St. Jude’s Congregation, Glasgow, in connection with their proposal to build a Manse on vacant ground adjacent to the Church. On the grounds of poor amenity and prohibitive cost, this proposal has been departed from, in favour of purchasing a suitable house, near the Church, and in a good locality.
Following upon this decision, the Deacon’s Court have been successful in securing a house at 13 Kingsborough Gardens, Glasgow, W.2. The cost of the house, together with necessary improvements and decoration, is in the region of £3,000. The proceeds of the sale of the old Manse, added to the present total of the Manse Fund, will meet almost half of the amount.
The Office-bearers feel that there may be some who contributed to the Manse Fund with the sole purpose in mind of building a Manse, as outlined in the previous appeal. They would appreciate if any who contributed to the Fund in response to the last appeal, and who do not wish such contribution to be used in the purchase of the present Manse, would notify the Treasurer to this effect as soon as possible.
They also renew their appeal, on this occasion, to the friends of St. Jude’s, at home and abroad, to support this project; and they take this opportunity of thanking those who have so kindly contributed already. The Treasurer of the Fund is Mr D. A. MacPhail, 4 Roxburgh Street, Glasgow, W.2.
