LITERARY NOTICES

Answers to Prayer

This is a small booklet of 128 pages, with paper covers and an attractive front cover page. These answers to prayer are taken from the well-known George Müller’s narratives by a Mr Brooks. Mr Brooks has selected those incidents and practical remarks from Mr Müller’s life, which show clearly “the secret of believing prayer, the manifest hand of the living God, and His unfailing response in His own time and way, to every petition which is according to His will.” This most interesting booklet is to be had from—The Secretary, Christian Literature Crusade, 39 Ludgate Hill, London, E.C.4: price 2/6, postage 6d. extra.

Five English Reformers

This is a fair sized booklet of 160 pages with stiff paper covers and a coloured illustration on the front cover of a Reformer preaching to an audience outside. The author is the celebrated J. C. Ryle, D.D., and the Reformers of whom he writes so attractively, are John Hooper, Rowland Taylor, Hugh Latimer, John Bradford and Nicholas Kidley. And the first chapter of this booklet is on “Why were our Reformers Burned?”.

The booklet is printed by The Banner of Truth Trust, 78B Chiltern Street, London, W.1., and costs only 2/6. Excellent value and suitable for young people as well as others.

Five Christian Leaders

This booklet is after the same format as ‘The Five Reformers.’ It is larger, as there are 190 pages of excellent reading in this booklet, again by the well-known Bishop Ryle. The Christian leaders are—John Berridge, Wm. Grimshaw, Wm. Romaine, Daniel Rowlands and Henry Venn. On the front cover page there are coloured portraits of these eminent ministers of the Gospel of Christ. It is also published by The Banner of Truth Trust, and priced only 2/6. Those who are not already acquainted with these godly lives, should not hesitate to purchase this booklet for themselves and their friends. The print is very good in both these publications.

The Adventures of a Bible

This is an amazing incident of how a Bible “without a living voice to expound its teaching in two of these cases—had brought three precious souls out of the darkness into light.”

This article appeared in “The Young People’s Magazine,” volume 23, number 5, and is now obtainable in tract form from Emmaus Publications, 11 Marlboro’ Street, Cork, at 2d. per copy.
