TRIBUTE TO LATE REV. MALCOLM GILLIES, Stornoway

‘S e Aobhar Chriosd a dh’fhairich geur,
‘Nuair chualadh leinn an sgeul sud,
Ar teachdair’ mór bha snasail séimh,
Gu’n d’ thug an bàs bho’n treud e.

‘S e Maighstir Callum Gillies còir,
An t-urramach bha eudmhor,
A thugadh dhachaidh dh’ionnsaidh Chriosd,
‘S cha chluinn sinn guth a bheul-san.

Rinn gibhtean nàduir ‘s gràs Dhé,
Dhiot ministir bha mùirneach,
Is d’ ioraslachd fo ungadh gràis,
Chuir sud ort mais’ seach mòran.

Bha thu eòlach ‘m biobull Dhé,
Bha thu léirsinneach air daoine,
Bha féin-fhriosachadh ‘n a d’ cheum,
Is eaglais Dhé bu chaomh leat.

Cha b’e ‘n aois a thug e ‘uainn,
Tri fichead bliadhna a dh’aoise
Bha Maighstir Gillies ‘n uair a dhùin
E’n réis le mais na naomhachd.

‘N a d’ theagasg bha thu òrduil réidh,
Is stàmp ort reir na firinn,
Bha mil is beannachd ‘o do bheul
Gu beathachadh an fhìreain.

Dhàn Sholaimh dheigh’ tu leinn,
‘S gu dearbha ‘s tu bha prìseil,
‘S fàile cùbhraidh Ròs o Shàron
Dh’fhaireadh sinn le misleachd.

Am pomgranat shealladh tu
Bho sholus glan na firinn,
‘S a sin ‘dh’ Engedi dheigh’ tu leinn
Gu ‘n champhir is an spiòsraidh.

Chanadh tu le blas nan gràs,
‘S d’ inntinn air an Iobairt,
‘Co ach Criosda ‘ghabhadh rinn
‘S ar staid gu bochd ‘s cho dìblidh?”

‘Leabhar nam Breitheimh dheigh’ tu ris,
Gu Samson calma ‘s treuna,
Is chitheadh sinn an samhladh briagh’
Th’ air an Alpha is Omèga.

Mu ‘n a leòmhan theireadh tì,
Gu ‘r e am bàs gu cinnteach,
‘S gu ‘r e Criosd a bhris a bheul,
‘S a choisinn saors’ na h-oighreachd.

Dheigheadh tu cuairt do ‘n Leabhar Shalm,
Is sin gu ‘n Iobairt-reite,
‘S bho Fhiadh na maidne nochdadh tu
Dhuinn Criosd air a cheusadh.

Cùin ged bha thu agus sèirmh,
An Session is an Cléire,
Dh’éireadh tu mar ghaigheach treun
An aghaidh na féin-spéise.

‘S ann againn bha an t-shochair mhór,
Aig aois is ògridh Leòdhais,
Ach bho ‘n dh’fhalbh thu tha sinn tric
‘S ar cridhe trom fo thùirse.

O, ar n’ ionndrainn as do dhéigh,
‘S cha n’ iongnadh e da rìreamh,
Cò ‘lìonas d’ àit dhuinn as do dhéigh,
Gu mìneach’ dhuinn na fìrinn.

Bu tì an Criosduidh gràdhach caomh,
Is smior an fhior dhuin’ uasail,
Bha do cheum a réir do bheul,
‘S tu beusach ‘n a do ghluasad.

An deigh naomhachd bha do mhiann,
Is fhuair thu e gu cinnteach,
Gun smal, gun phreasadh tha thu nis,
Is bithidh feadh na lìnntean.

O! do shonas tha bith-bhuan,
‘S tu ‘n seilbh air saors’ na h-oigreachd,
‘S d’ àmhghar bh’agad iomadh là
Air tionndadh dhuit gu h-aoibhneas.

Niseach.
