These two books contain brief articles which appeared from time to time in The Friendly Companion, the Young Peoples’ Magazine issued by the Gospel Standard Strict Baptists. They are from the pen of Mr S. F. Paul, of Brighton, the present Editor of the Gospel Standard Magazine. Mr Paul is well-known by many Free Presbyterians and has for many years been acquainted with the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland. These books have been issued with the special desire that they may find their way into the hands of the young. 47 Bible Places are dealt with and 62 Bible People. We cannot quote extensively from these excellent books, but give the following extracts: Hebron: “What a sweet place Hebron was to Abram then! It was his home, where he lived with his wife Sarai. But it was also the place where God met with him and blessed him. So he built an altar there and worshipped God every day, making a sacrifice upon the altar as God had commanded. This shows that we should try to remember God in our homes, in reading His Word and in prayer. This is why your father, if you are favoured with a gracious one, takes down the Bible every morning and evening to read to you and to try to seek God’s blessing.” The Woman of Samaria: “So He taught her plainly that He was the Messiah that she was asking about. This was so wonderful to her that she forgot all about getting water from the well. She left her waterpot and went back into the city and told the people there that she had found Christ, the Messiah. So if we are taught how sinful we are, and brought to know Him as our Saviour, we shall want to leave all things and follow Him.”
