“All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.” John 6, verse 37.
What it is to come to Christ:— the coming intended in the text is to be understood of the coming of the mind to Him, even the moving of the heart towards Him, from a sound sense of the absolute want that a man hath of Him for his justification and salvation. Indeed, without this sense of a lost condition without Him, there will be no moving of the mind towards Him. That the true coming is from a sense of an absolute need of Jesus Christ to save, etc., is evident by the outcry that is made by them to come, even as they are coming to Him, “Lord, save me.” Oh! the heart-attracting glory that is in Jesus Christ, when He is discovered, to draw those to Him that are given to Him of the Father; therefore those that came of old, rendered this as the cause of their coming to Him: “And we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father” John 1, verse 14. Coming to Christ is not by the will, wisdom, or power of man, but by the gift, promise, and drawing of the Father. It is a good sign He intends to give thee, if He hath drawn out thy heart to ask. “Lord, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble; Thou wilt prepare their heart; Thou wilt cause Thine ear to hear.” Psalm 10, verse 17. He that is come to Christ hath found God in Him, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them. And God is not so to be found in heaven and earth beside. (2 Corinthians, 5 verses 19 and 20). Now, I say, His Word is truth, and He is full of truth to fulfil His truth, even to a thousand generations. Coming sinner, He will not deceive thee; come boldly to Jesus Christ. He is open and free-hearted to do thee good, as is seen by the joy and rejoicing that He manifesteth at the coming home of poor prodigals. He receives the lost sheep rejoicing; He rejoices when the lost piece of silver is found; yes. when the prodigal came home, what joy and mirth were in the father’s house. (Luke 15).

But I am a backsliding sinner, sayest thou.

But I have served Satan all my days, sayest thou.

But I have sinned against light, sayest thou.

But I have sinned against mercy, sayest thou.

But I have no good thing to bring with me, sayest thou.
