Day of Prayer
The Synod appointed a day of humiliation and prayer to be held throughout the Church on Wednesday, the 13th, or Thursday, the 14th October, 1971, in view of the alarming moral decadence of our nation and the distressing and increasing apostasy of the professing Churches throughout the land—to confess and bewail our own sins and the sins of our nation and to pray for an outpouring of the Divine Spirit.
Jewish and Foreign Missions Fund Collection
The Synod has appointed this Collection to be taken by book from house to house in August, and to our loyal people we have no need to emphasise the necessity of this fund and its importance. They have responded heartily in the past to the demands made upon them, and now that the needs are much greater we have no doubt they will rise to the occasion. From a very small beginning the field has spread enormously. There are three ministers and room for several more, and many never-dying souls to be reached by the Gospel. Many have heard it already as the Gospel of their salvation, but there are many more to whom it is a strange word. It is an honour to be the means of sending the joyful sound to this people, and we apply to our people to do their utmost towards that end. Our labourers have much to contend with but we should remember that “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Rev. D. Campbell’s Recovery
It will be gratifying to friends at home and abroad to learn that Rev. D. Campbell, Edinburgh, was able to resume some of his pastoral duties after a long period of incapacity of over a year. We would acknowledge the Lord’s goodness in thus restoring Mr Campbell, and pray that the Lord will spare him for many years of usefulness, continuing to bless his labours in His vineyard.
Theological Conference, 1971
The Theological Conference will take place in Dingwall Free Presbyterian Church on the 7th and 8th of September (DV). As usual the Conference is for ministers, office bearers, male communicants and congregational treasurers. There will be only ONE meeting open to the public on this occasion. This will take place on the Wednesday evening when the paper read will be on “Church Discipline.”
The following papers will be read and be followed by discussion among members of the Conference:—

Wednesday, 8th September—

– “Book Reviews: The Dead Sea Scrolls,” Rev. A. Cattanach, Finsbay
– “Church Discipline,” J.P.H. MacKay, Esq., Q.C., Edinburgh
This last paper will be in public and the meeting will commence at 7 p.m. (DV).
Greenock Communion
The Greenock Kirk Session wish to inform interested friends of the congregation that the Communion dates have been altered and now read as follows:— Fourth Sabbath in March and first Sabbath in October. It should be noted, therefore, that the October Communion this year will be held (DV) on the first Sabbath of the month.
