Trident Air Crash
No one could remain unmoved by the sudden tragic deaths of 118 persons aboard a Trident jet airliner which crashed two minutes after take-off from London Airport. What made the tragedy even more solemn was the fact that it happened on Sabbath 18th June. The ushering into eternity of so many so suddenly and in the very midst of their rejection of the claims of the divine law regarding the Sabbath is solemn beyond words. Though the Lord bears long with sinners yet it pleases the Lord by a signal act of His displeasure to remind us from time to time that there is a God that judgeth in the earth.
Golspie Swimming Pool Open on the Lord’s Day
At a meeting held in January of this year Sutherland County Council decided that their new swimming pool at Golspie would be open for a restricted period on Sabbaths—from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—as well as on weekdays. This decision, however, was reversed at a meeting on 28th February when the Council voted 10–9 against Sabbath opening. This decision was particularly gratifying to Sabbath lovers in the North. At a later meeting held in Dornoch on May 29th, when a petition with 1211 signatures (965 over 18 years of age and 246 under 18), mainly from Golspie, asking for the opening of the pool on Sabbath was presented to the Council, the former decision was overturned and the Council sanctioned the opening of the swimming pool on Sabbath. The swimming pool was opened on 26th June and on the following Sabbath, 2nd July, 400 swimmers and 50 spectators visited the pool during the three hour opening period.
We deplore this God-defying action of the Sutherland County Council in giving public support to Sabbath desecration in the County. The Council have embarked on a course which will inevitably bring the judgments of God in its train.
