Dr. Ronald Selby Wright, minister of the Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh, was appointed Moderator. Dr. Selby Wright attained notoriety as the “Radio Padre” during the Second World War. His erroneous beliefs and advocacy of prayers for the dead were the subject of a critical article which appeared in the November 1943 issue of the Free Presbyterian Magazine. This is the kind of religious leader that the Church of Scotland delights to honour.
Following a recently established precedent, a Romanist delegate was present and was given an opportunity to address the Assembly. It does not bode well for the Church of Scotland that his representative of the anti-christ should be admitted to her highest court.
