Rev. Donald MacDonald, Greyfriars Church, Inverness, was appointed Moderator in succession to Rev. Prof. G. N. M. Collins. In his opening address he stressed that “the assigning of preaching to a subordinate place in worship is quite contrary to the prominence given to it in the New Testament” and would lead to dire results. He also stated that when the Divinely given message was displaced by substitutes that provided no Gospel for perishing men it was small wonder that un-Christian systems like Humanism and Marxism are on the ascendancy. He further declared that the Church was now reaping the harvest of her unbelief in the Word of God. In the name of modern scholarship she began to discredit the trustworthiness of Scripture till now many of the fundamental truths of the faith are not only set aside but blasphemously repudiated.
