All attempts by the politicians to resolve the situation in Northern Ireland have failed. The low-keyed conciliatory approach of the political overlords has shown no sign of bearing fruit. The murderous campaign of the I.R.A. terrorists continues, and we have every reason to fear that it is Roman Catholic influence behind the scenes which prevents the army from being given the freedom of action it requires in order to deal effectively with the terrorists. Both the present Government and the former one have done nothing to allay the justifiable fears of the Protestant majority in Northern Ireland that they will be sold into the hands of their enemies.
