Church Notes

Teacher for Rhodesia

As the readers of the Magazine know, Miss R. MacKay returned to her post in the John Tallach Secondary School without her full leave. This is the second time that Miss MacKay has done this and the Committee feel that it is desirable that she should be relieved as soon as possible.

The teacher required to take her place would need to have a Science or Arts Degree as these qualifications are now required by the Education Authorities in Rhodesia. The Committee hope and pray that the Lord will put it into the heart of one of our young people to join the staff at Ingwenya and so fill a useful place in the Lord’s work in the school there.

Any one having such a desire should write to the Clerk of the Committee from whom all other necessary information can be obtained.

(Rev.) Donald MacLean, Clerk,
Jewish and Foreign Missions’ Committee,
13 Kingsborough Gardens, Glasgow G12 9NH.

Home Mission Fund Collection

This collection is due to be taken in the month of October by authority of the Synod.

The purposes of the Fund are well known as the labours of our lay missionaries are appreciated. The Committee was glad to be in a position to raise their salaries and believe our people feel the rise was much needed in these times. The activities of our Church Extension scheme are also met from this Fund and needs of one kind or another arise continually.

The Committee look to our people to contribute with their usual liberality.

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart so let him give . . . for the Lord loveth a cheerful giver.” (II Cor., 9 v 7).

(Rev.) Donald MacLean, Convener,
Finance Committee 1st October 1974

Resignation of Rev. D. J. MacAskill, MA, Ulg

At a meeting earlier in the year, the Outer Isles Presbytery regretfully accepted the resignation of Rev. D. J. MacAskill, Ulg, from the active ministry on health grounds. The members spoke feelingly of his long ministry of almost 40 years and hoped that he would be spared to enjoy a long and useful retirement. The retirement was to take effect from the end of July 1974.
