Thirty-one elderly women passengers and also the driver of a coach which was on a day trip through the Yorkshire Dales were suddenly killed when the coach in which they were travelling crashed through the parapet of a bridge and was smashed in the field below. This tragedy brought shock and sadness to Thornaby, Teesside, the place to which the people belonged.
How often, by accidents such as this one, are we reminded of the uncertainty of time and the nearness of eternity. What need there is, then, to make our calling and election sure while the day of mercy lasts and not to put off seeking salvation to a more convenient season. It is so easy for us to grow callous in the face of such solemn reminders of death. Tragic happenings have almost become commonplace today with news travelling so quickly from all parts of the world. Instead of hardening our hearts let us take warning from these sad events and seek a saving interest in the Lord Jesus Christ for our never-dying souls.
