In connection with this Ordination and Induction at Uig, the Outer Isles Presbytery met within the Church at Miavaig on the evening of Tuesday, 5th August, 1975. There was a large Congregation present including visitors from every congregation within the bounds of the Presbytery as well as a good number from the mainland. The Rev. John MacDonald, Staffin, being present, was associated with the Presbytery.
The Moderator constituted the Presbytery with prayer. Thereafter, the Rev. Duncan MacLean, North Tolsta, conducted public worship, preaching an appropriate sermon on 1 Timothy 4:16 — “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” At the close of public worship, the Moderator read a brief narrative of the steps taken to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement from the active ministry of the Rev. D. J. MacAskill, M.A. The Pastor-elect was then asked to stand and the Moderator read the questions usually put to Probationers at their Ordination and to which Mr MacLennan gave satisfactory answers. The Formula was then read to him and Mr MacLennan, having indicated his willingness to do so, signed it in the presence of the Congregation. Thereafter the Rev. Donald Angus MacLennan, Probationer, was ordained to the office of the holy ministry, with solemn prayer by the Moderator, and the laying on of the hands of the ministerial brethren in the Presbytery.
The newly ordained minister was then formally inducted to the pastoral charge of the Uig Congregation and given the right hand of fellowship by the Moderator and other members of the Presbytery. The Rev. A. MacKay addressed in appropriate terms the newly-inducted minister, and the Rev. J. MacLeod, the Congregation. At the close of the service the Congregation were given an opportunity of shaking hands with their minister at the door as they went out.
Our earnest desire and prayer is that the ministry now begun in Uig will be richly owned of God with many souls, as a result, coming to hear the voice of the Son of God and thus to live.
