The support shown by the W.C.C. to terrorist organisations has come to the fore again with a grant of £40,000 given by the W.C.C. to the Rhodesian guerrillas of Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo. It is gratifying to know that on this occasion considerable opposition to this action has been expressed by some Church leaders and politicians. The action of the W.C.C. deserves forthright condemnation by all right thinking people.
It is obvious from the attitude taken up by Mugabe and Nkomo — in recent times especially — that they have little interest in a truly democratic African government in Rhodesia but wish to establish a government of their own choosing and with their own leadership, and with support from the Russian Communists. The ultimate result would be the establishment of a Marxist regime, similar no doubt to that in the neighbouring country of Mozambique, through which religion would be progressively suppressed.
Satan’s forces are legion and today are very active on every continent of the world seeking wherever possible to stamp out Christianity on every hand. It is in the Lord’s power, however, to say to Satan, “Thus far shalt thou come and no further,” and then beyond these limits Satan and his hosts cannot go. It is, therefore, for us to plead for divine intervention in these critical days in the history of the world and for the turning back of the powers of darkness in the earth. Unless they are halted and turned back we need not think that we shall escape but that they shall overflow our own land also.
