Alcohol is still regarded as the largest single factor leading to death and injury on the roads. The cost to the country of this must be very high. Many attempts have been made by the authorities to curb drunk driving and it is evident that more stringent measures must be taken and more effective penalties imposed if this is to be prevented. Too often drunkenness is not regarded as the evil it is and a tolerance is shown towards drunk persons which is not warranted.
