The B.B.C.’s Director-General expressed regret over an interview given on the B.B.C. with the terrorists who claim to have murdered Mr Airey Neave. More recently the question of pictures of armed terrorists appearing in the daily press has been raised.
The media have a great responsibility laid on them as they represent a powerful force which can be used either for good or evil. It is essential that that force be used for good and not for evil. Consequently whatever would tend to the overthrow of law and order should be given no countenance whatsoever by the media. Publicity given to the terrorists — particularly if it is favourable — can only aid the forces of evil that are abroad today and which are seeking the destruction of all that is good and its replacement by a totalitarian regime.
