Ingwenya Mission
Zimbabwe 19th September, 1980
Dear Mr MacPherson,
In the kind Providence of the Lord we had a safe and comfortable journey. The warm send off we experienced from family and friends at Dalcross Airport, Inverness, on Tuesday evening was matched by the welcome we received from Mission staff at Bulawayo airport 22 hours later. Such is modern travel — and such also, we trust, is the concern for the spread of the Gospel.
We arrived on flight number 114 to a first impression of dust, dryness and cloudless skies. The number and impression recalling psalm 114:8.
“Who from the hand and story rock
did standing water bring.
And by his power did turn the flint,
into a water spring.”
May this be our experience of the grace of the God of Jacob in Zimbabwe!
There appears to be no immediate prospect of moving up to Mbuma due to the presence of a few armed men variously called Dissidents or Bandits (they were Freedom Fighters or Heroes a few months ago). They have effectively stopped all medical services in the Nkai district except a clinic at Nkai itself. This is at a time when malaria, measles and anthrax are causing considerable suffering. It is hoped that the next few months will see an improvement and meantime we will be fully employed at Bulawayo, D.V.
