Day of Humiliation and Prayer
The Synod decided that November 26th 1980 be observed throughout the Church as a Day of Prayer to confess our increasing religious and moral decadence at all levels, and to pray for an outpouring of the Divine Spirit to generate faith and deep repentance among us.
Aberdeen Property Fund Appeal
It is now over a year since the congregation in Aberdeen purchased more suitable property for a manse. More recently, repairs and alterations necessary for the church hall have been carried out. These two matters have involved the congregation in an expenditure of £29,442 (plus interest charges).
The present debt on the Property Fund is £23,311. This figure includes a bank overdraft of £12,290, on which the congregation is paying interest at the rate of 21% per year. After receipt of the full loan/grant allocated from the Forsyth Bequest, this overdraft will be reduced to £3,713. The loan of £15,967 from that source will, of course, still require to be repaid.
Retiring collections for the Property Fund are being taken within the congregation from time to time, but the Deacons’ Court is thankful for this opportunity to make our needs known throughout the Church. The congregation is growing, but it is still comparatively new, and students comprise a significant percentage of its membership. We pray therefore that others throughout the Church may be led to share with us these heavy financial burdens.
