Day of Humiliation and Prayer
The Synod resolved that “Wednesday, 25th November 1981, be held as a day of humiliation and prayer throughout the Church to confess our sins which contribute to the relative absence of the power of the Holy Ghost in our Assemblies, to blush and pray as did Ezra on account of the accelerating pace of our national spiritual and moral backslidings and cry to the Lord for a revelation of His glorious grace and mercy in the midst of deserved wrath, through the infinite merits of His dear Son.”

Induction and Ordination of Rev. H.I. MacKinnon M.A.
On August 25th 1981, at 7 pm a large congregation from many parts of the church gathered to witness the induction and ordination of Rev. H.I. MacKinnon, Probationer, to the charge of Strath in the Isle of Skye. The church was filled to capacity, among whom were Revs. A. Murray, S.F. Tallach, J.W. Ross, J. Ross, and A. Morrison. Their presence and contribution to the service not only added much to the interest and enjoyment of the occasion, but underlined the special bonds and benefits of the Presbyterian structure of the church.
The relevant part of the Minute calling this meeting was read by the Clerk. The Edict was returned duly served. The Officer of Court made the usual proclamation at the door of the church. Thereafter, the Moderator, Rev. D. Nicolson went to the pulpit and preached a solemn and faithful sermon from 2nd Corinthians chapter 5, verses 18 to 20. Public worship being ended, the Clerk gave a brief narrative of the proceedings in the Call to Rev. H.I. MacKinnon. The Moderator then addressed to him the questions to be put to ministers at their induction and ordination to a pastoral charge, and he having returned satisfactory answers to the same, and having signed the Formula in the presence of the congregation, the Moderator did in the name of the Presbytery and with solemn prayer, and laying on of their hands, ordain and induct the said Mr MacKinnon as minister to the pastoral charge of the Strath congregation, and the brethren gave him the right hand of fellowship. Thereafter, the newly inducted minister was suitably addressed by the Clerk, and the congregation fittingly exhorted by the Moderator. The praise which was truly hearty and harmonious was led by Dr Cameron Tallach, at present on furlough from medical missionary work in Hong Kong.
We were greatly heartened by the breadth and depth of interest engendered by the induction of this young minister. It is our fervent prayer that the ministry now begun will be richly owned of God in the conversion of sinners, and the edification of His people. The Free Presbyterian witness is, we believe God given, and God originated. It is this firm conviction that makes us pray all the more earnestly for the preservation and dissemination of that Testimony at home and abroad in an age of moral and spiritual declension.
