Mission News

There was some excitement at Mbuma recently when it was announced that President Mugabe was to pay a visit to Mbuma Hospital. For a few days before the visit, various security men were at Mbuma making sure that all was in readiness for the visit. One thousand children were assembled to greet the President, who arrived by helicopter rather later than was expected. We have not yet heard what his impressions were.

The Rev. D. B. MacLeod expects to leave for Kenya during December and Mr Vermeulen and the Rev. A. B. Ndebele will join him there. After visiting Kenya and Malawi, Mr MacLeod will proceed to Zimbabwe, where he will D.V. spend two weeks.

The Prize-giving at the John Tallach School takes place this month. The prizes will be presented by the Secretary for Education, Mr Isaiah Sibanda, who received his Primary education at Zenka School, and spent one year at Ingwenya before there was a Secondary School there.

Miss Macaulay, in a recent letter, tells of having received an interesting letter from a Dutch lady who organises the ‘Friendship Missionary Group’ who send parcels to the Mission from time to time. The lady’s name is Mrs Winters, and she said it was her father who used to publish the little booklets from the “Inheritance Publishers” which were often included in the parcels. The booklets contained sermons by Puritan Divines. Mrs Winter’s father, on one occasion, visited Scotland and stayed with the late Rev. D. Beaton in Wick.

At the end of September the Communion was held at Ingwenya and the services were appreciated. The Rev. Z. Mazvabo was the assisting minister. Mention was made of a sermon on, “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire . . . .” ‘Christ is the Gold and we need him for time and eternity.’

Mr and Mrs Neil Murray are hoping to arrive in London on November 30th. Miss Marion Graham is also expected home early in December, if all is well.
