When Britain joined the Common Market it was represented as a trading partnership from which Britain would derive much prosperity. Whatever material prosperity may have followed this alliance of trading nations in Western Europe, it is very clear that no moral or spiritual blessing has
followed our membership of this organisation, but rather the reverse. At the time of our joining the Common Market of Western Europe the idea that it might lead to a political union was loudly decried. It is now clear that this is the end in view, so far as most of the members of this alliance are concerned, and strong pressure has been exerted to try and force Britain to make common cause with these other nations. Should this attempt succeed, and Britain succumb to the temptation of a political alliance with these largely Roman Catholic nations the future looks black indeed, so far as the religious freedom, so long enjoyed by our nation, is concerned.
An alien, Roman Catholic controlled, federal government would be able to impose its will on any rump of a British parliament which still remained. Already, without such a political union being in existence, a European Court is already issuing decisions which the British government must submit to, however destructive to family or social or religious life these decisions may be. That the Vatican has a conspicuous hand in the present situation is seen in the pan-European Synod, the first in the Roman Catholic Church’s history. Bishops and Cardinals from Eastern and Western Europe convened in Rome to plan for a future in a united “Christian” Europe. Such a Europe will be one dominated by the R.C. Church.
AIDS Crisis
The World Health Organisation predicts that 18 million people will be victims of AIDS by the end of the century. To try to combat the disease great efforts are being made to educate people and especially young people on the danger of contracting it. What is so sad in the face of this divine judgment on unnatural vice is that governments refuse to take any action against the unnatural vice which has given rise to it. On the contrary, our own Government is threatening the Isle of Man Government, where there is still legislation forbidding sodomy, that if their Government will not remove that legislation, the British Government will intervene and do it for them. What moral and spiritual blindness there is in this in the face of this terrible plague! So, too, in counselling the young, the Government refuses to take a high moral stand and warn the young of the evils of loose moral conduct and of their duty to honour the law of God.
There is only one answer to the AIDS plague and that is by the nation being brought to repentance for her sins and turned from the way of sin and death to the way of uprightness and truth.
