Supermarkets and Sabbath Trading Laws
Tesco, Asda and Safeway Supermarket chains declared their intention of defying the Sabbath legislation in England and Wales and opening their stores on four Sabbaths in December. Government ministers instead of condemning this high handed action by the supermarkets, has more or less given its tacit approval to this breaking of the law of the land on the lame excuse that the European Court is reviewing the matter. The enmity of the natural heart to any Sabbath legislation is seen in the repeated attempts to remove the Sabbath legislation from the Statute Book of the land, although so far these attempts have proved unsuccessful. The profit motive appears to urge men on to trample the Sabbath under their feet. However a day of reckoning is coming for those who engage in these activities. They will then find out to their eternal loss that the law of the Sabbath was not instituted by man but by the God of heaven who gave it to man for his good.
