Royal Patron of Chester Cathedral’s Celebrations
The Prince of Wales has accepted an invitation to be the Royal Patron of Chester Cathedral’s nine hundredth anniversary celebrations, according to a report in Chester Cathedral Chronicle. The Prince is also to attend the Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication in the Cathedral on June 20 1992. The report states that the nine hundredth anniversary of the foundation of the Benedictine Abbey on the site of the present Cathedral will be a year of thanksgiving to God for nine centuries of ceaseless Christian worship and service there. It is to be an entirely ecumenical year and Romanist and Anglican leaders are expected to attend the June 20 service. Cardinal Basil Hume, the R.C. Archbishop of Westminster is to preach. To the ecumenists it is as though the Reformation had never been. Ecumenical worship now so approximates Roman Catholic worship as to allow Romanist leaders to play a full part in such services. It is sad to think that it is this ecumenical type of service that the heir to the throne so often attends. If he understood the gospel of God’s grace he would not refer to nine nine centuries of spiritual life at the Benedictine Abbey and Chester Cathedral.
The Home Secretary and the Sikh Temple
While in Scotland recently the Home Secretary visited a Sikh temple. He put on traditional headgear and a garland of flowers for the visit. Politicians, no doubt, must be all things to all men, and especially when they wish to obtain votes for their party. It would be their wisdom, however, to keep as far away as possible from the false religions which are now raising their ugly head throughout the nation. It is sad that in many cases more respect is shown for the false creeds that have invaded the land than for Christianity. How dishonouring this is to the living and true God.
