My beloved friend,
It causes me very much sorrow to hear that you are so poorly.
The Lord grant you much of His own presence in your trouble and may His blessed gifts make your bed easy for you.
The blood of Christ is the only plea for the guilty either at the bar of conscience or at the bar of the law. “The blood of Jesus Christ God’s Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
The enemy can do a great deal if the Lord permit, but he can do nothing
against the Lord’s people but what the wisdom of God sees good for them. Job was severely tried but the Lord had gracious purposes in view. Hezekiah was told that his time for departure had come yet he had 15 years added to his life. Both had to set their seal to it that His name is “the Wonderful”. May the Lord grant you much of joy which comes from the shining of His face upon the soul. “Unto you therefore which believe He is precious.” The Spirit asks the question, “Is there any consolations in Christ? Is there any communion of love?” Philippians 2: 1. May the precious consolations which are in Jesus Christ be the support of your soul and may the communion of His love fill you with hungering and thirsting after Him, and enable you to say: “I love the Lord because my voice and prayers He did hear.”

My dearly beloved friend,
I hope “the candle of the Lord shines upon your tabernacle”. “Unto you therefore which believe He is precious.” O that Christ were made precious indeed to our souls! That we were enabled, through and at the expense of His grace, to sing with David “I love the Lord because my voice and prayer He did hear, etc.” To be enabled to sing of the mercy of God is surely a pleasant thing when He enlarges the hard heart. Nothing can give songs in the night and in the wilderness but the remembrance of the mercy of a holy and just God in the gift of His dear Son. “Think on the works which He performed which admiration breeds.”
May the Holy Spirit — the Comforter — enable you to rest entirely upon the finished work of Christ as the only foundation laid in Zion; on His shed blood as the price paid for guilty souls; on His intercession as the only hope of being heard and received by the Father through Him.
There is nothing that terrifies the great adversary like the “blood of Christ”; and there is nothing which gives ease to the guilty conscience like “the blood of Christ”.
I would like exceedingly well to see you but the sheep are scattered upon the mountains of Scotland and I cannot refuse their cry so I had to come here for two Sabbaths during holy days. “He is faithful that promised who will also do it.” His name is “the faithful and true witness.” “He shall lift the poor from the dust and the beggar from the dunghill etc.”
The Lord grant you much of the consolations of His grace.
